New Delhi: There is a common belief that eating certain fruits in winter can worsen cold and cough. Guava is often included in this list, which has led many pregnant women to avoid it. But is this really true, or is it just a myth? Gynecologist Dr. Maneesha Gupta shares the facts and explains why guava can actually be highly beneficial for expectant mothers.
Boosts Immunity and Prevents Cold
In an Instagram video, Dr. Maneesha Gupta emphasized that pregnant women should definitely include guava in their winter diet. Guava is rich in Vitamin C, which enhances iron absorption and strengthens immunity, reducing the chances of cold and cough. The fruit also contains a high water content, helping prevent dehydration during pregnancy.
Supports Baby’s Brain Development
Guava is also a great source of folate, essential for the brain development of the baby. Along with folate, it provides key vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Additionally, it helps in controlling blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of gestational diabetes.
Consume in Moderate Quantity
Dr. Gupta advises pregnant women to eat guava in moderation—ideally one guava per day. It’s important to avoid overripe or raw guavas and to wash the fruit thoroughly before consumption.
