New Delhi: Face packs have become an essential part of modern skincare routines, helping cleanse the skin, remove dirt, excess oil, and dead cells, and leaving the skin glowing, soft, and hydrated. However, improper use can sometimes cause more harm than good. Nutritionist Shweta Shah shares three common mistakes people make while using face packs and explains how to avoid them.
The Benefits of Face Packs
Face packs not only improve skin texture but also help reduce acne, blemishes, and uneven skin tone. They can even prevent dryness and provide deep nourishment, making them a popular skincare choice. Yet, incorrect usage can turn these benefits into potential harm.
Three Common Mistakes
- Leaving the Face Pack on for Too Long
Many people keep face packs on for 15–20 minutes or longer, thinking it will enhance the glow. Shweta Shah advises keeping it for only 5–10 minutes, as overextending the application can actually reduce the benefits and irritate the skin. - Using the Wrong Pack for Your Skin Type
Face packs should be chosen according to your skin type:
- Pitta (oily/heat-prone) skin: Cooling packs
- Vata (dry) skin: Nourishing packs
- Kapha (combination/normal) skin: Light and drying packs
Using the wrong type can cause irritation, redness, or acne.
- Applying Face Packs Daily
Daily use can weaken the skin barrier, making the skin more sensitive. Face packs should be used at most twice a week to maintain healthy skin.
Patch Test is Essential
Before using any skincare product—whether chemical or natural remedies—always perform a patch test. This helps prevent potential reactions and ensures the product is safe for your skin.
By following these simple guidelines, face packs can remain a beneficial part of your skincare routine without causing damage.
