For couples struggling to conceive, the emotional toll can be immense—especially when all medical reports come back normal, yet pregnancy remains elusive. Such was the case for a 28-year-old couple from Rajasthan, who, despite trying for two and a half years, could not understand the reason for their infertility.
Fertility expert Dr. Mahima recently shared this case on her Instagram page, highlighting a crucial insight for couples facing similar challenges.
Regular Periods, Normal Ovulation, Yet No Success
The couple, married for three years, had been attempting conception for two and a half years. The woman had regular menstrual cycles and normal ovulation. They had undergone up to ten cycles of ovulation induction combined with natural attempts, but none were successful.
Husband’s Reports Also Appeared Normal
Both partners underwent thorough testing. The woman’s fallopian tubes were open, and the husband’s semen analysis appeared normal. Despite multiple consultations and reassurances that everything was fine, the couple remained unable to conceive, leading to growing frustration and emotional distress. Dr. Mahima also advised lifestyle modifications, including proper diet, yoga, and weight management, but these measures did not yield results.
IUI Led to the Discovery of the Rare Issue
After cross-checking all reports, Dr. Mahima recommended an Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) procedure. It was during this stage that the true cause emerged: the husband’s semen sample contained only one to two sperm. Repeat testing confirmed the finding.
Expert Advice for Couples
Dr. Mahima emphasizes the importance of having semen analyses conducted at reputable laboratories. While this condition—extremely low sperm count—is rare, it is not impossible, affecting roughly 1–2% of men attempting conception. Early detection and specialized fertility treatment can significantly improve the chances of successful pregnancy.
This case highlights that infertility is not always straightforward, and even when reports appear normal, rare conditions may be the underlying cause. Couples struggling to conceive are encouraged to seek expert guidance and thorough testing to uncover hidden factors.
