A Costly Mistake During Pregnancy: One Negligence by In-Laws Leads to Tragedy, Leaves Even the Doctor Shocked

If you or anyone in your family is expecting a child, the advice of gynaecologist Dr. Sonia Gupta is crucial. Recently, she shared a deeply disturbing case that highlights how a single act of negligence during pregnancy can result in heartbreaking consequences.

“Madam, We Made a Huge Mistake…”

In an Instagram video shared by Dr. Sonia, a woman tearfully tells her:
“Madam ji, we made a very big mistake… a huge one. God had blessed us, but our fate betrayed us.”

The doctor says the family’s grief shook her to the core.

The Family Ignored Checks for Nine Months

According to Dr. Sonia Gupta, the pregnant woman was expecting her third child, and she already had two daughters. Worried that the family might again have a girl, the in-laws became anxious and stressed throughout the pregnancy.

Mistakenly assuming the symptoms were “just like last time,” the family did not take her for a single medical check-up for all nine months.
No tests, no scans—nothing.

They overlooked the mother’s discomforts and brought her directly to the hospital only when labour pains began.

The Baby Had Passed Meconium in the Womb

After an urgent examination, doctors found the situation extremely critical.
The baby had passed meconium (stool) inside the womb, contaminating the amniotic fluid.
The mother’s condition was also dangerous—her haemoglobin levels were very low.

Delivery Could Not Save the Baby

A rushed delivery was performed.
The baby—a boy—was born almost lifeless, covered in severely contaminated fluid and breathing very faintly.

Despite all efforts, the newborn could not be saved.

The moment the family learned it was a boy, they collapsed in tears—only to realise that their own negligence had cost them a life.

“My Heart Aches for the Mother” — Dr. Sonia’s Appeal

Dr. Sonia says,
“My deepest pain is for the mother who nurtured her child for nine months, only to lose him because of others’ mistakes.”

She urged families to:

  • Never neglect medical check-ups during pregnancy
  • Never let superstition or social fear risk the life of mother or child
  • Never discriminate between sons and daughters

She adds that every child—boy or girl—deserves equal love, respect and care.
