For urban dwellers, maintaining a garden can often be challenging due to limited space, time, or access to soil. However, renowned gardening duo Annu and Varun have shared an easy solution. They’ve listed six plants that can thrive in just a glass or jar of water, producing roots, leaves, and even flowers without any soil.
These water-friendly plants not only purify the air but also add a modern, classy touch to home interiors. From the popular Money Plant to the flowering Mexican Petunia, you can create a small indoor garden hassle-free.
1. GG Plant
The GG Plant is ideal for low-maintenance plant lovers. Even a single leaf can grow into a new plant in water. Roots take about 1.5 to 2 months to develop, and while the process is slow, the plant adds a luxurious feel to your home corners.
2. Money Plant
Perfect for beginners, the Money Plant can grow from a small cutting placed in a water bottle. New roots appear within 7–10 days. It requires no special fertilizers—simply changing the water occasionally is enough.
3. Monstera Plant
Known for its large, cut leaves, the Monstera can also thrive in water. After placing the cutting in water, roots and small leaves appear in 3–4 weeks. It purifies indoor air and adds a modern, artistic touch to any room. Keep it in filtered sunlight.
4. Snake Plant
Though usually grown in soil with minimal water, the Snake Plant can also flourish in water. Roots develop in about 2 months. Since it releases oxygen at night, it’s a smart choice for bedrooms.
5. Mexican Petunia
Unlike most water-grown plants, the Mexican Petunia blooms even in water. A 4–5-week-old cutting can be placed in water, and in about 2 months, fully developed roots and flowers will brighten your home.
6. Syngonium Plant
The Syngonium or “Arrowhead Plant” is valued for its attractive foliage. Roots start forming within 2 weeks of placing the cutting in water. It continues to grow in water while maintaining shiny leaves—perfect for office desks or kitchen windows.
With these six plants, anyone can enjoy a soil-free indoor garden, adding greenery, fresh air, and even blooms to their living spaces without the hassle of traditional gardening.
