Is your gas stove old, rusty, and looking worn out? YouTube creator Amita has shared a simple and cost-effective home remedy that can restore even a 30-year-old stove to its former shine—spending no more than ₹10. This method cleans both the stove surface and the burners deeply, removing years of grease and rust.
Materials Needed
- Antacid powder (like Eno)
- Lemon
- Hot water
Step-by-Step Cleaning Method
- Deep Clean the Burners: Start by removing the burners from the stove. Place them in a deep vessel and pour in enough boiling water to submerge them. Add one packet of antacid powder. Let it soak for 15 minutes. This loosens built-up soot and grime inside the burner holes, improving flame quality from yellow to blue.
- Clean the Stove Surface: While the burners soak, sprinkle another packet of antacid powder over the stove’s surface, especially on rusted or greasy areas. The combination of sodium bicarbonate and citric acid gently breaks down rust and stubborn grease, offering a safe alternative to expensive chemical cleaners.
- Scrub with Lemon: Take a halved lemon and rub it over the powder-coated areas. Lemon juice reacts with the antacid powder to form a powerful cleaning agent. For tougher grime or thick rust layers, use steel wool along with the lemon.
- Reach Tight Corners: Use the thin edge of a screwdriver to clean narrow spaces around burners or buttons where hands can’t reach. Follow up with an old toothbrush to scrub away any remaining residue.
- Rinse and Dry Burners: After 15 minutes, remove the burners from the solution and scrub them with a toothbrush. Open any clogged holes and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Dry completely before reassembling.
- Wipe and Reassemble Stove: Wipe the stove surface with a damp cloth to remove lemon and antacid residue, then finish with a dry cotton cloth. Reinstall the burners. Your old, rusty stove will now shine like new, and the flame efficiency will improve.
This simple, affordable technique proves that even decades-old kitchen appliances can regain their sparkle with everyday household items.
