Zakir Khan Reveals Real Reason Behind Stand-Up Break: Admits to Harming His Own Health

Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has opened up in an interview about the real reason behind his decision to take a break from comedy. According to him, a hereditary condition runs in his family, which tends to manifest after a certain age, and he has started experiencing its effects. He also admitted that he has caused harm to his own body in the process.

The news of Zakir Khan stepping away from comedy had left fans disappointed. It was earlier reported that he was taking a break solely to prioritize his health, and a video circulating online seemed to confirm this. However, Zakir clarified in an interview that the actual reason is linked to his family’s genetic health history.

In an interview with Gulf News, Zakir said, “I need to focus on my health. There are certain genetic conditions in my family that appear after a particular age, and I have started facing the effects. I have also caused damage to my body myself. Sleeping for just two hours and then meeting thousands of people every day takes a toll. From the moment you reach a city, you are constantly meeting people.”

He added that being the first generation in his family to achieve such success comes with the responsibility of setting things right for future generations.

Zakir explained that for nearly a decade, he prioritized work above all else, which affected his health. “When you work continuously for 10 years, it impacts your body. That’s why I decided to focus on both work and health going forward. Last year, when I was in the U.S., I realized I cannot handle both at the same time. That’s when I decided to take a break,” he said.

Addressing the viral video suggesting he won’t perform stand-up until 2030, Zakir clarified, “I had said that in Hyderabad because it will take some time for me to start performing shows there after the break. But the break won’t be that long. My priority is to stay healthy, and I am working on that. I love my work deeply and hope to do stand-up until I am 80, for which being healthy is essential.”
