The highly anticipated Yash Raj Films (YRF) spy-universe project Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, is set to release in theaters on 17 April 2026. Despite an attractive ₹215 crore streaming offer from Netflix, the production house has decided against an OTT release, opting for a theatrical premiere instead.
Announced in 2024, Alpha was originally scheduled for a 2025 release, with initial reports suggesting it might bypass theaters and stream directly on OTT platforms. However, according to a report by Variety India, Netflix had proposed a deal worth ₹215 crore to secure streaming rights. YRF declined the offer, stating their commitment to releasing the film exclusively in cinemas.
A YRF spokesperson confirmed, “Alpha will be released in theaters. Reports suggesting a direct OTT release are rumors. YRF does not release its films on OTT before their theatrical run.”
In an official statement, the production company expressed confidence in the film: “We are trying to make Alpha a very special film. It features one of the country’s top actresses, Alia Bhatt, in the lead role, along with the talented Sharvari Wagh. We are confident that audiences will enjoy the film as much as they do with other major action releases.”
Recently, media reports also hinted at a minor creative disagreement between Alia Bhatt and co-star Bobby Deol during the film’s production. According to sources, Alia offered creative suggestions that Bobby reportedly disagreed with, leading to some tension on set.
Alpha is now scheduled for a theatrical release on 17 April 2026, coinciding with Salman Khan’s action film Battle of Galwan, promising a big clash at the box office.
