Los Angeles | February 3: Hollywood star Halle Berry has revealed that winning an Oscar in 2002 did not significantly alter the trajectory of her career, with filmmakers remaining hesitant about casting her in leading roles.
Berry made history as the first and only Black woman to win the Best Actress award for her performance in the 2001 film Monster’s Ball. Directed by Marc Forster, the drama featured Berry as Leticia Musgrove, a woman who forms a complicated relationship with Hank (Billy Bob Thornton), a prison guard involved in the execution of her husband. The film explores themes of love, loss, and redemption in the aftermath of tragedy.
Despite the historic win, Berry said she continued to face uncertainty and doubt from industry insiders, highlighting the persistent challenges for Black actresses in Hollywood.
