Vivek Oberoi Clarifies He Didn’t Quit Bollywood After Accident: Returned to Sets in 3 Months

Actor Vivek Oberoi has dismissed claims that he left the film industry due to a severe accident. Speaking publicly, Vivek revealed that although he suffered serious injuries, he returned to work within three months and went on to do several successful films.

Vivek shared a detailed account of the accident, which occurred during the shooting of Yuva in 2004. He suffered multiple fractures in his leg after a bike accident. “My leg broke in three places, and I underwent surgery where an 18-inch titanium rod was inserted. Recovering from it was mentally and physically challenging,” he said. Vivek credited Dr. Anil Irani, former physiotherapist for the Indian cricket team and head of physiotherapy at Nanavati Hospital, along with his team, for his recovery. “Thanks to their skill, guidance, and support, I was back on my feet in three months and able to perform action sequences again,” he added.

Addressing rumors about his absence from films, Vivek clarified, “Some people assumed I stopped working because I couldn’t take on physically demanding roles. That was never the case. The accident was just a brief setback in my career, and with proper care, I continued doing challenging roles.” Post-recovery, he appeared in films like Omkara, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mission Istanbul, Prince, and Krrish, achieving new milestones without compromise.

During interviews, Vivek recounted how co-actors Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan rushed him to the hospital after the accident, and filmmaker Mani Ratnam suffered a heart attack upon learning about it. Even after four months, Vivek returned to sets for Fanaa and Anjaana Anjaani, sometimes limping through scenes.

On the professional front, Vivek Oberoi was last seen in Masti 4, directed by Milap Zaveri, which failed at the box office. He is now set to appear in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film Spirit, alongside Prabhas, Tripti Dimri, and Prakash Raj. The first look of the movie was released on January 1.
