Veteran Actress Kamini Kaushal Passes Away; No Bollywood Celebrities Attend Funeral, Family and Pets Bid Silent Farewell


Renowned Bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal, one of the oldest and most respected figures in Indian cinema, passed away on 14 November 2025 at the age of 98. Her funeral took place on Saturday, 15 November, marked by a deeply emotional atmosphere, yet notably absent were any Bollywood celebrities.

Kamini Kaushal’s family, along with a few close friends, performed the last rites following traditional Hindu customs. Her son, Vidur Kaushal, oversaw the rituals. Uniquely, Kamini Kaushal’s pet dogs were also present, offering a silent and touching farewell to their beloved owner. Videos of the poignant funeral moments have since gone viral on social media.

Although no film industry personalities attended the funeral in person, stars including Anupam Kher, Kiara Advani, Shahid Kapoor and others took to social media to share heartfelt condolences and honor Kamini Kaushal’s remarkable legacy.


Career and Legacy

Kamini Kaushal was among Bollywood’s highest-earning and most popular actresses of the 1940s. She worked with iconic actors such as Dilip Kumar, Dharmendra, and Amitabh Bachchan. Born in Lahore, her father, Prof. Shiv Ram Kashyap, was considered a pioneer in biology, credited with discovering six new plant species.

Kamini Kaushal made her acting debut in Chetan Anand’s 1946 film ‘Neecha Nagar’, which went on to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival. Over her seven-decade career, she starred in classics like ‘Shahid,’ ‘Do Bhai,’ ‘Nadiya Ke Paar,’ ‘Ziddi,’ ‘Upkar,’ ‘Purab Aur Paschim,’ and ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.’ Her later roles included appearances in modern films like ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ alongside Aamir Khan.

Her passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema, leaving behind a legacy of timeless performances and a life dedicated to the art of storytelling.
