Veteran Bollywood actor Prem Chopra, known for his iconic villain roles, was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on November 8 due to chest congestion and infection. After a week of treatment, the 90-year-old actor was discharged, and his son-in-law, actor Sharman Joshi, has now revealed the details of his serious heart condition and shared that Prem Chopra is recovering well.
Severe Aortic Stenosis Treated via TAVI Procedure
Sharman Joshi, in a social media post, disclosed that Prem Chopra was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis—a condition where the aortic valve narrows, restricting blood flow from the heart to the body. Symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain, and fainting. To treat this life-threatening condition, doctors performed a TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) procedure, successfully replacing the aortic valve without the need for open-heart surgery.
Sharman Joshi expressed gratitude to the medical team, writing:
“On behalf of our family, I sincerely thank cardiologist Dr. Nitin Gokhale and interventional cardiologist Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao for their excellent care. Dad was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis, and Dr. Rao successfully replaced his valve using the TAVI procedure without open-heart surgery. Dr. Gokhale’s constant guidance gave us confidence at every step. Dad is now home and feeling much better. We are forever grateful for their extraordinary support and care.”
Support from Friends and Industry Colleagues
During his hospital stay, several Bollywood personalities visited Prem Chopra, including actor Jitendra. Sharman Joshi shared hospital photographs showing Prem Chopra with doctors and well-wishers, highlighting the support and love from the film fraternity.

Famous for portraying villainous characters, he began his acting journey in 1962 with the film Vidya and continued to work steadily in cinema.
