Fans are abuzz with excitement over SS Rajamouli’s next cinematic extravaganza, Varanasi. While the official release date was yet to be confirmed, a major update has now emerged. According to promotional pages, Rajamouli’s Varanasi is scheduled for an April 2027 release.
Varanasi Release Update
The release date for SS Rajamouli’s much-anticipated film Varanasi has been revised. The movie, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles, was initially slated for a January 2027 release. However, it will now hit theatres on a new date to avoid clashing with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, releasing in March 2027, featuring Prabhas and Tripti Dimri.
In Varanasi, Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini, Mahesh Babu portrays Rudra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran essays the antagonist Kumbh. The official title of the film was announced last November at a grand Globetrotter event held at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. Reports suggest that the film’s budget is approximately ₹1,200 crore.
According to the film’s promotional page, Varanasi spans thousands of years of history and traverses multiple continents—a scale rarely seen in Indian cinema. The story travels from Antarctica to Africa, eventually culminating in the ancient Indian city of Varanasi, which inspired the film’s title. The movie is now set to release on 7 April 2027.
Scenes Spanning Antarctica to Kenya
A glimpse of the film was showcased on a giant screen, featuring spectacular sequences set across locations and eras—including Antarctica, Varanasi, Kenya, 512 CE, 2027 CE, and even the Treta Yuga.
Fulfilling a Father’s Dream: Mahesh Babu
During the event, Mahesh Babu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support. He said, “I am grateful to my fans for their love. It has been a long journey. Everything I do is to impress you. This event is only for revealing the film’s title—there’s still much more to come. My father always wished for me to work in mythological films, believing it suited my personality. I didn’t follow his advice back then, but today, I know he is blessing me from above.”
Priyanka Chopra Shares Her Excitement
Priyanka Chopra, too, shared her joy at being part of such a grand Telugu film. She said, “I am thrilled to be part of a project of this scale. Cinema here is truly a celebration. Shooting in our beloved India has been an absolute delight. I have always believed—and I continue to believe—that the best and only way to make a mark in Telugu cinema is to collaborate with great artists. I feel incredibly fortunate to work with such legendary talent.”
