Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s film “Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri” (TMMTMTTM) is struggling at the box office. Released on Christmas, 25 December, the romantic comedy has failed to earn even ₹30 crore in its first six days, against a production budget of ₹90 crore.
Despite massive promotions, the film has been overshadowed by the blockbuster “Dhurandhar”, which continues to rake in huge numbers, grossing ₹11.25 crore on its 26th day in India alone. Social media users have heavily criticized TMMTMTTM, especially for its remakes of popular songs like “Sajan Ji Ghar Aaye” and “Saat Samundar Paar.”
In response to the criticism, producer Karan Johar shared a long Instagram note, without naming anyone, admonishing those who celebrate others’ failures. Johar urged people to stop glorifying failures and instead practice genuine kindness and fair criticism.
Directed by Sameer Vidwans, TMMTMTTM faced additional hurdles from competition, including “Dhurandhar” and “Avatar 3”, and now “Ikkis”, which is set to release on 1 January 2026. According to Sacnilk, the film earned ₹1.75 crore on Tuesday, the same as Monday, bringing its six-day total to ₹27 crore net.
In his Instagram note, Johar wrote:
“Compassion… is it now an alien concept? Have we, as humans, lost the ability to celebrate success gracefully? Can we stop celebrating failure and instead truly appreciate others’ efforts? Can criticism be delivered without anger, discrimination, or hate?”
He further added:
“Social media should not become a dumping ground for failures, flaws, or inner darkness. Can we practice what we preach? Knowledge-givers must apply their wisdom in action. We are not moral police—look within and confront your own moral inconsistencies.”
Concluding his note, Johar urged:
“Ultimately, can you embrace kindness despite your own flaws and indecisions? Be yourself and accept yourself as you are. Happy 2026!”
TMMTMTTM’s poor performance serves as a reminder of the challenges smaller films face when competing against blockbusters, yet Karan Johar’s message emphasizes the importance of empathy and ethical discourse over public shaming.
