Tanuj Mahashabde, who plays Krishnan Iyer, Babita Ji’s husband, in the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, opened up about his close bond with co-star Disha Vakani. He described Disha as being like a sister to him and shared how she supported him during a difficult time in his life.
Speaking about their relationship, Tanuj said, “My bond with Disha Vakani has always been wonderful. We are still in touch regularly. She is like a sister to me.”
Support During Personal Loss
Tanuj revealed that Disha had been a source of comfort when his mother passed away. “When my mother passed away, she called me and invited me over to her home. We had a very heartfelt conversation, and whenever we meet, it’s with love and respect. I miss her a lot,” he added.
A Humble Star Off-Screen
The actor also praised Disha’s humility, despite her stardom. “She is such a big star, yet she treats everyone equally and kindly. She would often bring food for co-stars who lived alone, like Gurucharan Singh and me. She would ask if we had eaten and then make sure we were seated and served properly. Disha genuinely loves sharing happiness and, in real life, she is exactly like her on-screen character.”
Disha Vakani’s Absence from the Show
Disha went on maternity leave in 2018 following her pregnancy and has not returned to the show since. Recently, producer Asit Modi confirmed in an interview that she will not be returning to the popular sitcom.
Tanuj’s heartfelt words highlight not just the camaraderie behind the camera but also Disha Vakani’s warmth and humility, echoing her much-loved portrayal of Daya Ben on screen.
