
Following the passing of Bollywood legend Dharmendra on November 24, the film industry gathered to pay their respects at a prayer meeting organized by his sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol. The event, titled “Jeevan Ka Utsav” (Celebration of Life), was a heartfelt farewell to one of cinema’s most cherished icons.
Held on November 27 at the lawn of Taj Lands End in Bandra, the ceremony brought together family, friends, and well-wishers to honor Dharmendra’s remarkable legacy. The Deol family created a serene atmosphere for the event, with Dharmendra’s sons Sunny and Bobby, along with Ajita and Vijeta—children from his first wife, Prakash Kaur—standing together to pay tribute.
The evening’s most emotional moment came when singer Sonu Nigam performed some of Dharmendra’s most beloved songs, including “Main Kahin Kavi Na Ban Jaaun”, “Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas”, “Apne To Apne Hote Hain”, “Ro Lene De”, and “Ye Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge”.
A video from the event shows Sunny and Bobby Deol embracing Sonu Nigam while trying to hold back their tears, visibly overwhelmed by the performance. Later, the brothers thanked him for the tribute, further deepening the emotional moment.
Adding to the spiritual ambiance, Sonu Nigam also performed “Prithvi Gandharva Govind Bolo Hari Gopal Bolo”, enhancing the sanctity of the gathering.
The prayer meeting saw an outpouring of love from the film fraternity. Celebrities including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Jackie Shroff, Sidharth Malhotra, Suniel Shetty, Ameesha Patel, Fardeen Khan, Nimrat Kaur, Sonu Sood, Anu Malik, Subhash Ghai, and the director duo Abbas-Mustan attended. Members of Shah Rukh Khan’s family were also present to pay their respects, highlighting the immense love and admiration Dharmendra inspired across generations.
The event stood as a moving tribute to Dharmendra’s life and legacy, with the presence of his family and Bollywood peers underscoring the profound impact he had on Indian cinema and the hearts of millions.
