Sudha Chandran Wants to Work Until Her Last Breath, Says: “May My Makeup Stay on My Face”

Veteran actress Sudha Chandran recently opened up about her passion for acting and her experiences in the industry. In an interview, she expressed her desire to continue working until her last breath, adding that she hopes to leave this world with her makeup and ghungroos (dance bells) on.

Chandran, who has had a long and illustrious career spanning television and films, has been in the news recently after videos from a religious ceremony at her home went viral. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, she reflected on discrimination in the entertainment industry, stating, “I’ve been very lucky. I’ve never faced discrimination. People have embraced me wholeheartedly and given me so much love and respect that I never felt sidelined.”

When asked if there were roles she wished she had played, Chandran said, “I want to play every character I see on TV. I’m very selfish about this—I love every character. When I see a role, I feel, why didn’t I get this? That fire keeps burning inside me.”

On her personal philosophy about life and work, she added, “My wish is to keep my makeup on until my last moment. If God wills, I hope to depart this world with my ghungroos and makeup intact. Not everyone gets such an end.”

Born on 21 September 1965 with roots in Tamil Nadu, Chandran overcame a childhood accident that led to the amputation of her right leg. She adapted to an artificial leg and went on to become an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and actress. She married assistant director Ravi in 1994, and the couple has been together for 31 years.

Chandran made her acting debut in the 1984 Telugu film Mayuri and has since appeared in numerous Hindi and South Indian films and popular TV shows such as Vishnu Puran, Kashmakash Zindagi Ki, Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil, Kasturi, Mata Ki Chowki, and Naagin 2.
