Sudha Chandran Drinks 4.5 Litres of Water in 10 Minutes During Mata Ki Chauki, Shares Divine Vision of Lord Murugan

Veteran actress Sudha Chandran, known for her remarkable journey in films and dance, recently opened up about a viral video from the Mata Ki Chauki ceremony held at her home. Speaking on Paras Chhabra’s podcast Abra Ka Dabra, she detailed the intense spiritual experience, including drinking 4.5 litres of water in just 10 minutes and witnessing a divine vision of Lord Murugan before her father’s passing.

Mata Ki Chauki and a Spiritual Connection
When asked about the viral video, Sudha said, “It’s a big word—‘mata aati hain’—I’m not sure if the Goddess comes into me, but she definitely blesses me.” She shared that her connection with the Mata began after her marriage to a Punjabi man. Her father emphasized the importance of visiting family deities annually to avoid pitru dosh (ancestral faults). This led Sudha and her husband Ravi to begin annual trips to Vaishno Devi in 1997, continuing for 22–23 years. During these ceremonies, she learned about the Mata Ki Chauki ritual and has been observing it regularly since.

During the recent ceremony, Sudha revealed, “Ravi later told me that I drank 4.5 litres of water in just 10 minutes. I was begging for water. I was exhausted for a day and a half after that.”

Her Name and Early Life
Sudha shared how her name came about: her father, originally from Kerala, moved to Mumbai at a young age to support his family. Working as a typist in a renowned dancer’s household, he decided he would name his daughter Sudha, after the dancers he admired. Sudha began her career as a dancer in the Telugu film Mayuri, which was one of the first biopics focusing on a dancer’s life, and she played the lead role herself.

Accident and Comeback
Sudha Chandran also spoke about a life-changing accident. Shortly after a trip, two buses collided, causing severe injuries, including gangrene in her leg and eventually requiring amputation. She described the challenges of returning to the stage after three years, performing a 3.5-hour show with an artificial limb, initially for only family members before performing publicly.

Divine Vision of Lord Murugan
Reflecting on the spiritual aspect, Sudha said, “As I took a step forward during the ceremony, I felt the presence of our family deity, Lord Murugan. Soon after, a priest handed me a packet containing a photo of Murugan and incense. Just as my father lay in the ICU, I saw a peacock outside. Within minutes, the doctors informed me that my father had passed away, exactly as he had said—Lord Murugan came to take him.”

Through this powerful combination of devotion, discipline, and divine intervention, Sudha Chandran continues to inspire her fans with both her resilience and spirituality, keeping her legacy alive in Indian cinema and cultural traditions.
