South Actor Sivaji Apologizes After Controversial Comments on Women’s Attire

South Indian actor Sivaji has publicly apologized after facing widespread criticism for his remarks about women’s clothing at a pre-release event for his film Dhandora. During the event, the actor had suggested that women should wear sarees or attire that fully covers the body, stating that beauty lies in traditional dressing rather than revealing clothing.

Apology Issued
In a video message shared on social media, Sivaji expressed regret for his choice of words, emphasizing that his intentions were not wrong. He said:
“I sincerely apologize for the words I used at the Dhandora pre-release event last night. My intention was good, but my choice of words was wrong.”

Controversial Statement
The 54-year-old actor had previously said:
“I request all actresses not to wear clothes that reveal the body. Please wear sarees or attire that fully covers the body. True beauty lies in complete attire or a saree, not in exposing the body.”

Public Backlash
Sivaji’s comments sparked severe backlash on social media, with many criticizing him for imposing personal opinions on others. Singer Chinmayi Sripada was among those who publicly condemned the actor, stating:
“He advises actresses unnecessarily while he himself wears jeans and hoodies. He should follow Indian culture and dress appropriately. The way women are treated is shocking.”

Following the criticism, Sivaji’s apology aims to quell the controversy, but the incident has reignited discussions on celebrity remarks and public accountability.
