Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, who recently surrendered at Tihar Jail over a decades-old bounced cheque case, had expressed his helplessness, saying, “What can I do? I don’t have money. I see no other way. Here, you’re all alone. You don’t have friends. I will have to face this hardship by myself.”
Now, actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has extended a helping hand to support Yadav.
Sonu Sood Speaks Out
The issue dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav, as a director, made the film Ata Pata Lapata and borrowed ₹5 crore from Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd. to finance it. While the film was completed and released, it flopped commercially, leaving Yadav unable to repay the debt. The lending company subsequently filed a case against him for bounced cheques.
After multiple court notices and legal proceedings, Yadav finally surrendered at Tihar Jail on 4 February 2026. Prior to surrendering, he was visibly emotional, telling officials about his lack of resources and support.
Reacting to the situation, Sonu Sood tweeted his support, stating:
“Rajpal Yadav is a talented actor who has given our industry memorable performances over the years. Sometimes life is unfair—not because of talent but due to unfortunate timing. He will be part of my upcoming film, and I believe this is the time for all of us—producers, directors, and colleagues—to stand together.”
“Not Charity, But Respect”
Sonu Sood emphasized that helping Yadav is not a donation but an act of respect. “A small amount, which can be repaid through future work, is not charity; it is respect. When a member of our industry is going through a difficult time, we must remind them that they are not alone. This shows that we are more than just an industry—we are a community,” he said.
Fans have praised Sonu Sood’s initiative on social media, highlighting it as an example of true humanity. One fan commented, “Everyone can make mistakes, but it is wrong to ruin someone’s life and career because of it. God bless Sonu Sood for his efforts.”
Legal Background
Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles include earlier jail terms. In 2013, he spent four days in judicial custody after failing to appear in court, though the Delhi High Court later suspended his sentence, acknowledging that he was not a habitual offender. In June 2024, the High Court granted a temporary stay on his sentence, advising both parties to explore a settlement. Yadav had assured the court he would repay ₹2.5 crore in installments but was unable to fulfill this promise. In January 2026, the court gave him a final opportunity, which he could not utilize, leading to his surrender in February.
With Sonu Sood’s intervention, there is hope that Rajpal Yadav will receive both the financial and moral support needed to navigate this challenging phase of his life.
