Shubhangi Atre EXCLUSIVE: “Piyush’s Passing Was Heartbreaking; I’ll Reserve a Theater Seat for Him”

Shubhangi Atre, famous for her iconic role as Angoori Bhabhi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, opened up in an exclusive interview with Navbharat Times about her personal and professional life, touching upon the loss of her late husband, motherhood, and her perspective on the show’s current cast, including Shilpa Shinde.

A Crazy Fan and Unforgettable Moments

Shubhangi shared a heartfelt story about her fans: “During the shooting of the film in Dehradun and Mussoorie, we took a day off to visit Rishikesh. At Parmarth Niketan on the Ganga Ghats, the crowd that gathered to see me was overwhelming. I’ve had many devoted fans, but one fan in particular really touched my heart. He came all the way to my home with gifts, prasad, and a black thread, and even wrote me a letter acknowledging the struggles I faced in my personal life while still entertaining people. That gesture moved me deeply.”

Reserving a Seat for Her Late Husband

Reflecting on her most difficult times, Shubhangi said, “The last three to four years have been extremely tough for me. I am a very private person; my home and work have always been my priorities. The period of separation from my husband was very challenging, and last year, when Piyush passed away, it was deeply painful.” (She becomes emotional while speaking.)

She added, “I am certain he continues to bless me and my daughter, Ashi. I want to keep his memory alive in happy moments. Soon, I will go to Bhopal with my parents to watch a film, and I will reserve a seat for Piyush. My late husband supported me throughout my journey as an actress, and this is my promise to him—a seat next to me in the theater.”

Motherhood as a Blessing

Shubhangi spoke fondly about her daughter: “Being a young mother has its advantages. Initially, I worried I became a mother too early, but now I truly enjoy motherhood. Despite the injuries I get while working, my daughter constantly reminds me to take care of myself. She even gives me tips on socializing. Daughters are truly a blessing.”

Emotional Farewell from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain

Shubhangi reflected on leaving the show after ten years: “It was extremely emotional. On the last day at the set, I bowed at the temple where I used to pray daily and cried. When you spend a decade on a show, you develop an attachment to everything—the doors, windows, even the plants. Leaving was hard, but life moves forward. On the final day, I distributed jalebis to everyone. I handed over my role to Shilpa Shinde, and I hope she nurtures it with the same love. Characters are bigger than actors; they deserve love and respect from the audience.”

Fond Memories with Ravi Kishan

Shubhangi also reminisced about working with Ravi Kishan in the film adaptation, noting, “Ravi Ji’s effortless acting was inspiring. Many actors believe in method acting, but he could switch on and off naturally. He created a fun environment on set, constantly joking and keeping spirits high. I truly enjoyed working with him and look forward to collaborating again.”
