In the latest episode of Shark Tank India 5, tensions flared between Anupam Mittal and Aman Gupta while making an offer to a Mumbai-based couple pitching their brand. The two sharks exchanged sharp jabs at each other, prompting Namita Thapar to step in and mediate the situation.
The couple, Varun Duggirala and Pooja Johar, introduced their brand Emomee, a platform showcasing short, engaging stories for children, with new content uploaded daily on their YouTube channel. Drawing on years of experience in the creative and advertising industries, the couple requested ₹1 crore for 2% equity in their company.
Namita Thapar immediately offered them a deal valuing the brand at ₹50 crore for 2% equity. Following her, Aman Gupta, Mohit Yadav, and Kunal Bahl also presented similar offers. However, when it was Anupam Mittal’s turn, he highlighted areas of improvement for the brand and suggested a different valuation. Mittal offered ₹2 crore for 5% equity, based on a ₹40 crore valuation, emphasizing his extensive experience in producing films and building apps.
Aman Gupta intervened, attempting to sway the couple toward his vision, which led to a heated exchange between the two sharks. Gupta stressed, “Content is king, but distribution is God. Varun will create the content, while Pooja and I will focus on distribution.” Mittal countered, asserting his unparalleled expertise in digital product distribution in India. The argument escalated, with both sides trading personal jabs—Gupta questioning Mittal’s closed companies and Mittal replying, “Your job didn’t last either.”
Namita Thapar intervened to calm the situation, noting, “You are making them fight; this is turning into a full-blown argument.” She proposed that all sharks collaborate to make a joint offer to the couple. However, Aman Gupta declined, stating he would not partner with all five sharks and admitting he no longer favored Mittal.
The episode once again showcased the trademark banter and competitive dynamics between the sharks, while Varun and Pooja left excited with multiple offers to consider.
