The fifth season of Shark Tank India kicked off with a bang, featuring pitches that impressed the judges with their innovation and presentation. Among the standout participants were four young entrepreneurs from Mumbai – Rahul Vinod Vohra, Annaya Agarwal, Amay Thakkar, and Veer Pinto – who presented their brand “The Croffle Guys”, offering a hybrid of croissants and waffles.
The team sought ₹1 crore for 1% equity, valuing their company at ₹100 crore, and quickly won over the Sharks with their unique product and creative approach.
From Bollywood Sets to Business Ventures
Co-founder Rahul Vohra shared his journey on the show, revealing that he had previously worked with Bollywood stalwarts such as Shah Rukh Khan and Kabir Khan before leaving the film industry to start a business with friends. Rahul explained, “Veer and I come from the film industry, so we wanted to present our product in a cinematic way. It was a creative idea inspired by our background.”
Rahul’s Bollywood journey began with an internship under Kabir Khan, eventually leading to roles as a VFX producer, assistant director, and associate director. He even co-directed the film “My Melbourne”, which premiered at film festivals. His on-screen experience includes sharing the frame with Shah Rukh Khan in a major Dubai Tourism advertisement, which Rahul described as a dream come true.
Nine Years of Mentorship with Kabir Khan
Rahul described his time in the film industry as deeply formative: “I worked with Kabir for nine years, and he has been like a father figure to me. I started as an intern at 21 and gradually worked my way up to co-director. Those years were some of the most fulfilling of my life.”
A Bold Career Shift
Leaving the film industry was not an easy decision. Rahul said, “Nine years in the industry left me deeply connected, but after marriage, I felt it was the right moment to explore new avenues. It felt like a blessing when the opportunity came my way. A trip to Thailand at that time helped me reflect on my career and set me on this new path.”
Shark Tank Funding Secured
The team’s innovative croffle concept impressed the Sharks, and they successfully secured ₹2.5 crore in funding, marking a strong start to the season and paving the way for their brand to expand nationally.
