While Sara Arjun is making waves with her performance in Dhurandhar, her father, veteran actor Raj Arjun, is also grabbing headlines—not just for his career but for his inspiring struggle story. Known for films like Secret Superstar, Dear Comrade, and Rowdy Rathore, Raj Arjun has had a long and challenging journey in the film industry.
Struggles Before Stardom
Raj Arjun, originally from Bhopal, was born into a family running a crockery business. Though his father wished him to continue in the business, Raj chose to pursue acting. He moved to Mumbai in 2004 to follow his dream, facing several years of struggle without any major support or “godfather” in the industry.
During his early days in the city, Raj’s hardships were extreme. At one point, he was denied entry into his PG accommodation late at night and was forced to spend the night at a railway station. He revealed in an interview that locals told him, “Take off all your clothes and sleep here, or the police will assume you are a criminal and take you away.”
Years of Unemployment and Persistence
From 2005 to 2011, Raj faced almost six years of unemployment. He often got only minor roles, sometimes just one or two scenes, such as in the film Company, for which he earned a mere ₹2,000. Despite the challenges, he kept visiting production houses, presenting his photos, and pleading for work, even approaching well-known directors like Anurag Kashyap.
Raj admitted that during this period, he was ready to work for free and begged friends for acting opportunities. “I cried and pleaded for work, and even today, remembering those days gives me chills,” he said.
Breakthrough and Success
Raj’s fortunes changed with the 2017 film Secret Superstar, where he played the father of Zaira Wasim’s character. This role brought him recognition, and soon he started receiving offers from South Indian cinema as well as Bollywood. Since then, Raj Arjun has appeared in films like Rowdy Rathore and Dear Comrade. In 2024 alone, four of his films were released, and two to three more are slated for 2026.
Pride in Daughter Sara Arjun
Raj Arjun now finds himself in the spotlight again thanks to his daughter Sara Arjun, who has been praised for her role in Dhurandhar. He expressed that Sara’s dedication and talent have been an inspiration, helping him stay motivated through tough times.
From sleeping at railway stations to earning a name in cinema, Raj Arjun’s journey is a testament to perseverance, hard work, and resilience in the face of adversity.
