Mumbai police have made significant progress in the firing incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence, with four arrests and CCTV footage revealing a shooter in action. The case, initially handed over to the Crime Branch, saw the accused sent to police custody until 5 February.
Details of the Arrests
On Sunday, 1 February, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested four men in connection with the case. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused have links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and Shubham Lonkar, who is wanted in the murder case of RCP leader Baba Siddiqui.
The arrested individuals are:
- Aditya Gyaneshwar Gayaki (19 years)
- Siddharth Deepak Yenpure (20 years)
- Samarth Shivsharan Pomaji (18 years)
- Swapnil Bandu Sakat (23 years)
A fifth suspect is still under intense questioning, as police suspect he may be one of the main conspirators.
CCTV Footage Provides Key Evidence
The Crime Branch has reviewed footage from several CCTV cameras in the area. The videos show a man on a motorcycle firing at least five rounds near Shetty’s Juhu residence. Police say one bullet even shattered a glass panel in the gym of Shetty’s nine-story building.
Rohit Shetty has recorded his statement with authorities, and over 12 investigative teams are probing the incident from multiple angles.
Reconnaissance Before the Firing
Police reports indicate that the suspects conducted reconnaissance around Shetty’s residence before the attack. Searches for weapons are ongoing. Investigators also say the accused were known to each other and allegedly carried out the attack due to past grudges or social media disputes.
Possible Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Connection
A few hours after the incident, a threatening post appeared on social media, claiming responsibility for the attack and linking it to Shubham Lonkar and Arju Bishnoi. The post mentioned gang members Hari Boxer and Harman Sandhu, warning:
“We have repeatedly asked him not to interfere in our affairs, but he did not listen. This is just a trailer. If he does not comply, the next shots will not be fired outside his residence but inside his bedroom. This is a warning to all Bollywood – stay within limits, or the consequences will be worse than Baba Siddiqui’s case.”
Rohit Shetty’s Statement and Industry Reaction
Rohit Shetty confirmed that he is safe and has full faith in the police. The incident has reignited concerns over security in the film industry, with several Bollywood personalities expressing support for Shetty on social media and demanding strict action against the culprits.
This incident underscores the serious security challenges faced by public figures, even in high-profile neighborhoods like Juhu, and authorities continue to investigate the matter thoroughly.
