The 2021 biopic ‘Saina’, based on badminton legend Saina Nehwal, featured actress Parineeti Chopra in the lead role. Recently, Saina addressed speculations about a supposed rift between her and Parineeti after both reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Speaking on Subhojit Ghosh’s YouTube channel, Saina clarified that their relationship was purely professional and limited to the film. She said, “There was never any personal disagreement. Our connection was only for the movie—nothing beyond that.”
No Friendship, Just Professional Work
Saina explained that her demanding schedule, packed with training, tournaments, and events, left little room for socializing. She added, “Whatever interactions we had were professional. I never said or implied that we became friends. Some sessions were just me professionally explaining what I’ve done in life. We never spent time outside work, like dinners or lunches, so friendship never developed.”
Behind the Scenes of the Biopic
The sports drama, directed by Amole Gupte, also starred Manav Kaul, Eshan Naqvi, and Meghna Malik. The film showcased Saina’s journey from Haryana to Hyderabad, highlighting her struggles, intense training with her coach, and eventual rise to become world number one in badminton.
Saina’s remarks put an end to the social media speculation, emphasizing that the Instagram unfollowing had nothing to do with personal differences but was simply a reflection of their professional boundaries.
