As Christmas celebrations are underway across the country, a video from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district has triggered strong reactions on social media and drawn a sharp response from Bollywood actress Richa Chadha. The viral clip shows members of a right-wing group reciting the Hanuman Chalisa outside a church in the cantonment area.
The video, widely circulated online, prompted Richa Chadha to repost it on X (formerly Twitter), where she openly criticised the act. Commenting on the incident, the actress wrote:
“Why don’t you also sing bhajans and kirtans during your own festivals, brother?”
Social Media Reactions Pour In
Richa Chadha’s remark sparked a flurry of reactions from users on social media. While several users supported her stance, others criticised both the incident and the actress’s response. One user commented, “Unemployment is at its peak,” while another sarcastically remarked that even Lord Hanuman would be puzzled by such actions.
At the same time, some users targeted Richa Chadha directly, questioning her right to comment on religious matters. The debate intensified, reflecting the deep divisions on social media surrounding issues of religion and public conduct.
Reports of Vandalism During Christmas
In addition to the Bareilly incident, reports have emerged from various locations where Christmas decorations were vandalised. In some areas, slogans were raised and public property was allegedly damaged, adding to concerns over communal harmony during the festive season.
Richa Chadha’s Upcoming Projects
On the professional front, Richa Chadha is set to appear in the film ‘Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’, scheduled for release in 2026. She is also currently shooting for a biopic based on the life of Silk Smitha, both of which are in production.
The incident and the reactions it sparked once again underline how social media has become a flashpoint for religious and political discourse, especially during sensitive occasions such as festivals.
