New Delhi: Actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan has reacted to the delay in the release of the much-awaited film ‘Jan Nayakan’, starring Thalapathy Vijay. He announced that he plans to raise the issue in Parliament and discuss ways to strengthen and streamline the Censor Board. Kishan also urged members of the film industry to approach him directly if they face any obstacles.
The film, made on a budget of ₹500 crore, has been in the news due to delays in receiving a censor certificate. The case is currently under consideration in the Madras High Court, where a Division Bench recently set aside the earlier single-bench order directing the Censor Board to issue a UA certificate. Makers have now been asked to approach the single bench again for a fresh hearing, leaving the release date uncertain.
In an interview with Indian Express, Kishan said, “I am just a phone call away. I only came to know about this today. I have not received any direct complaint, but as a Member of Parliament, filmmakers can contact me directly—either in writing or over a call. If a film is stuck, I can communicate with the Censor Board.”
He explained that delays are often due to the censor process, which involves careful scrutiny of language, religious sentiments, and factual representation. “The main question is how many screenings the panel members can conduct in a single day,” he added.
Kishan further stated, “I want to tell my extended family—the film industry—that they can reach out to me directly. Since our government is in power, it is my responsibility to look after their concerns so they don’t have to worry.”
He confirmed that he will take up the matter at the parliamentary level and discuss with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting how the Censor Board can be equipped with faster and better processes and tools, enabling producers to release their films on time.
The actor’s proactive response comes amid mounting frustration among fans and makers over the indefinite delay in the release of the high-profile film.
