Ranveer Singh Threatened with Extortion; Voice Note Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh recently received a chilling threat, and Mumbai Police have now identified the voice in the message as allegedly belonging to Harry Boxxer, a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The threat, sent on February 10 via WhatsApp voice note to Ranveer’s manager, demanded ₹1 crore and warned of severe consequences if the actor did not comply. Investigators discovered that the sender had used a VPN to mask the origin of the message, which was traced to a foreign location. Forensic analysis of the audio sample is underway to confirm the sender’s identity.

Details of the Threat

According to police sources, the voice note contained explicit threats against Ranveer Singh and his entire staff, warning of harm and urging immediate payment. This comes shortly after a shooting incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence, highlighting a troubling rise in extortion attempts targeting Bollywood celebrities.

A Mumbai Police officer stated, “The case involves multiple layers, including tracing the source, the number, and other technical details. The gang has tried to conceal their identity through VPNs, similar to the recent threat received by Salman Khan’s brother-in-law, Ayush Sharma, via ProtonMail on February 11.”

Increased Security Measures

Following the receipt of the threatening message, Ranveer Singh immediately informed the authorities. Police have heightened security at his residence and deployed personnel to ensure the actor’s safety.

Connection to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang

The Mumbai Crime Branch suspects Harry Boxxer, a known member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, to be directly involved. Investigators are also examining potential links between the extortion attempt and the Rohit Shetty firing incident, in which five people—Aman Marote (27), Aditya Gayaki (19), Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), and Swapnil Sakat (23)—have already been arrested. Shubham Lonkar, another gang associate, remains wanted.

Use of High-Quality Weapons

Authorities confirmed that the attackers involved high-quality domestic firearms, discharging five 7.62 mm rounds. Forensic teams are analyzing whether the bullets were 7.62×39 mm or 7.62×51 mm. Investigators believe multiple gang members may be involved and are scrutinizing financial transactions and eyewitness accounts to uncover the full network behind the threats.
