Bollywood has long been a subject of speculation—not just about box-office numbers or fashion statements, but also about the personal lives, relationships, and sexualities of its stars. Fans are often eager to know everything, from actors’ bank balances to their private relationships. Amid this climate of curiosity and rumor, a senior journalist has recently revealed some hard-hitting truths about the film industry.
Journalist Simi Chandak, in a podcast, discussed the experiences of male actors facing hidden pressures in Bollywood. She claimed that even successful actors like Ranveer Singh and Ayushmann Khurrana have reportedly faced the notorious casting couch during their careers.
Fear of Being Open About Sexuality
Chandak explained that, despite the presence of bisexual and gay actors in the industry, many hesitate to openly acknowledge their sexuality. Speaking on the Very Interesting podcast, she said:
“Suppose a Bollywood hero openly admits he is gay or bisexual. When he appears romantically with a heroine on screen, will the audience accept him in the same way?”
She further pointed out that actors often fear working with directors who are openly gay, due to social stigma and potential reputational risks. According to Chandak, this fear has historical roots, as several actors have shared experiences where they were pressured to compromise early in their careers.
Casting Couch Experiences
Chandak revealed:
“Many actors admitted that during their struggling days, they were asked to make compromises. Ranveer Singh and Ayushmann Khurrana openly faced such situations.”
Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar: Clearing the Air
Chandak also referred to the rumors surrounding Shah Rukh Khan’s closeness with filmmaker Karan Johar. She recalled an instance when Shah Rukh was asked about his relationship with Johar. In his typical witty style, he responded: “I am try-sexual.” The statement, she said, cleverly diffused rampant speculation.
Shah Rukh himself has addressed rumors about his sexuality in interviews with the Times of India, dismissing them humorously. He clarified: “I am neither involved with men nor with anyone else outside my marriage. I love my wife dearly. I enjoy exploring the full spectrum of human desires—sexually and emotionally—but these are private matters.”
Chandak’s revelations shed light on the pressures and prejudices that exist behind the glamorous facade of Bollywood, highlighting the challenges faced by actors navigating fame, reputation, and personal boundaries.
