Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji has once again found herself in the spotlight, this time for her candid comments during the promotion of her upcoming film Mardaani 3. In a recent interview, Rani suggested that women should not hesitate to speak up—loudly if needed—when addressing their husbands. Her remarks have sparked heated debates online, with social media users divided over her viewpoint.
Rani Mukerji on Household Dynamics and Respect
Discussing domestic roles and gender dynamics, Rani emphasized the importance of respect starting at home. She explained, “I believe respect begins at home. When a boy sees his father mistreating his mother, he internalizes the message that if this can happen to my mother, it can happen to every woman. I think fathers should be accountable for how they treat their wives at home. When mothers are treated well and with respect, boys understand that women deserve respect and dignity in society.”
Her Controversial Statement
Rani went further, suggesting that women should assert themselves when necessary: “Even small things like a father yelling at a mother shouldn’t happen. It’s right for a mother to raise her voice against her husband if needed.”
A Lighthearted Reference to Her Husband
Recalling a school incident, Rani shared that she once slapped a boy and joked about her husband, Aditya Chopra, saying, “I only slapped one boy; the rest were my friends. And don’t ask my husband what happens at home every day!”
Mixed Reactions from Fans
Not everyone was pleased with Rani’s comments. Social media users on platforms like Reddit and Instagram expressed disagreement, with some questioning her perspective. One fan wrote, “I think she’s trying to joke, but she doesn’t realize she’s not joking.” Another commented, “She laughs thinking she said something profound, but what kind of behavior is this? I really don’t understand why no one questions her. Being from an older generation doesn’t mean she can say whatever she wants.”
Mardaani 3 Set to Release
Meanwhile, fans eagerly await the release of Mardaani 3, in which Rani reprises her role as DCP Shivani Shivaji Roy, a fearless police officer tackling crime in her city, with a focus on protecting women. Written by Ayush and directed by Abhiraj Meenawala, the film is produced by Aditya Chopra and is the third installment in the Mardaani franchise. It is set to hit theaters on 30 January 2026.
