Rajpal Yadav on His Release: “A Work-Obsessed Person Needs Time More Than Sympathy”

Actor Rajpal Yadav, recently released from Tihar Jail in a cheque bounce case, is currently in his ancestral village in Shahjahanpur attending his niece’s wedding. Reflecting on his ordeal, Yadav remarked, “A person like me, obsessed with work, needs time more than sympathy.”

Released on Interim Bail

Rajpal Yadav spent 12 days in Tihar Jail and was granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court on 16 February 2026, valid until 18 March 2026. The relief came after he deposited ₹1.5 crore into the complainant’s bank account and completed other court-mandated formalities.

Yadav had surrendered to the authorities on 5 February, following a six-month jail sentence in the ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. Upon release, he returned to his family home, where he spoke exclusively to IANS, expressing gratitude to his supporters.

Plans to Address the Media

Yadav said, “I just reached home on Tuesday, and the family function is ongoing till Thursday-Friday. After that, I will address the media in detail.” He confirmed that he would hold a press conference to answer all questions and expressed his heartfelt thanks to supporters across India and the world who offered blessings and help through social media and other means.

“Millions Supported Me on Social Media”

“I always believed the entire country, Indian cinema, and millions of people are with me. This support will stay with me for life. Indian cinema is my karmabhoomi—it has given me opportunities worldwide. Millions supported me on social media, and I thank them all,” he said.

Court Recognized His Intent Was Not Wrong

The dispute traces back to 2010 when Yadav borrowed money to produce his first directorial venture Ata Pata Lapata, which later flopped. Businessman Madhav Gopal Agarwal, who lent the money, had pursued legal action. Yadav’s lawyer Bhaskar Upadhyay stated: “Initially, unfulfilled commitments made the situation difficult, and the court was reluctant to grant relief. But with divine grace and the support of Rajpal’s well-wishers, we managed to fulfill all commitments. The court recognized that Rajpal’s intent was not wrong; only circumstances were unfavorable.”

Yadav also questioned the repeated legal challenges: “When I was sent to jail, I genuinely did not have the funds. I hope the court will at least hear my arguments and allow me to explain why the complainant did not accept the bail amount as per the 2018 consent decree. How many times must I go to jail for the same case?”

Gratitude to Well-Wishers

Rajpal expressed thanks to Bollywood colleagues and fans who supported him: “I am deeply grateful to everyone who prayed for me. Over the past 25 years, Hindi cinema has nurtured me like a beloved child, allowing me to work in over 250 films. During this episode, whether through social media or other ways, those who blessed or helped me, I sincerely thank them from my heart.”

Commitment to Responsibility

He emphasized, “I have never said I would not repay the money. Over 25 years, I have received everyone’s sympathy, but I request some time. A person obsessed with work like me needs time more than sympathy. I was just released, and I need a few days to fully understand what happened in my absence. I still do not have my mobile phone, but I have faith that Indian cinema and people worldwide love me and will stand by me.”

Learning and Moving Forward

On personal growth, Yadav stated: “Going forward, if I make a mistake, I will melt even more than I speak and become humble. But if there is truth, I will be stronger than iron.”

The next hearing in the cheque bounce case is scheduled for 18 March 2026.
