Rajinikanth Heartbroken Over Actor Srinivasan’s Demise: “My Dear Friend Is Gone; I Once Hugged Him and Cried”

The South Indian film industry mourns the loss of veteran Malayalam actor and director Srinivasan, who passed away at the age of 69. Among those deeply affected is superstar Rajinikanth, who shared a close bond with Srinivasan, dating back to their struggling days in the industry.

Rajinikanth Pays Emotional Tribute

Rajinikanth, visibly shaken by the news, remembered his friend fondly. In a voice message, he said:
“I am deeply saddened to hear that my dear friend Srinivasan is no more. He studied with me at the Film Institute and was not only an incredible actor but also a wonderful human being. May his soul rest in peace.”

Srinivasan and Rajinikanth were close even during their training at the MGR Film and Television Training Institute, where Rajinikanth was his senior. Their friendship flourished during the challenging early days of their careers. Srinivasan once shared an emotional anecdote from their past that left Rajinikanth in tears.

A Memorable Moment

Srinivasan recalled in a 2008 interview with Rediff:
“I was in Mumbai and reached the preview theater just after the film ended. The producer told Rajinikanth I would be there. When he saw me, his eyes were filled with tears. He hugged me for a long time and then said, ‘You made me cry.’”

This heartfelt moment reflects the deep bond between the two actors, spanning decades of friendship and professional collaboration. Srinivasan had also played a key role in one of Rajinikanth’s notable films, Kadha Parayumbol, which became a blockbuster.

Industry Mourns the Loss

Tributes poured in from across the South Indian film fraternity. Stars including Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Dulquer Salmaan expressed their condolences. Prithviraj wrote on Instagram:
“Farewell to a great writer, director, and actor. Thank you for making us laugh and for all the insights you shared.”

Srinivasan’s passing leaves a significant void in the industry and his family is also in mourning.

A Glorious Career

Srinivasan enjoyed a prolific career spanning 48 years, appearing in over 200 films. Not just an actor, he was also a talented screenwriter and director, contributing to numerous hit films and playing a pivotal role in shaping the careers of stars like Mohanlal and director Priyadarshan.

His contribution to Malayalam cinema will be remembered, and his legacy as a versatile actor, writer, and director continues to inspire generations.
