Composer and singer Palash Muchhal, brother of popular playback singer Palak Muchhal, is once again in the headlines—this time over serious allegations of financial fraud. A 34-year-old actor and producer has accused Muchhal of cheating him of ₹40 lakh by taking money for a film project that was allegedly never completed. The police have begun a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
According to a report by news agency PTI, the complaint was filed in Maharashtra’s Sangli district. The complainant, identified as Vidyan Mane, submitted an application to the Superintendent of Police on Thursday, seeking the registration of an FIR against Muchhal.
As per the complaint, Vidyan Mane first met Palash Muchhal on December 5, 2023, in Sangli. During their interaction, Mane expressed interest in investing in filmmaking. He has alleged that Muchhal encouraged him to invest in his upcoming film titled Nazariya.
The complainant claimed that Muchhal assured him attractive returns, stating that after the film’s release on an OTT platform, Mane could earn a profit of ₹12 lakh on an investment of ₹25 lakh. Muchhal also allegedly offered him a role in the film. The complaint further states that the two met on multiple occasions, following which Mane reportedly transferred a total of ₹40 lakh to Muchhal by March 2025.
However, the film was allegedly never completed. When Mane asked for his money to be returned, he claims he received no response from Muchhal, prompting him to approach the police.
A police official confirmed that the matter is currently under preliminary investigation. As of now, Palash Muchhal has not issued any statement or response regarding the allegations.
The controversy has surfaced just a month after Muchhal made headlines for personal reasons. His wedding to Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, scheduled for November 23, was first postponed due to the sudden hospitalisation of Mandhana’s father, Srinivas. The wedding was later called off. Subsequently, Muchhal released a statement saying he had decided to move on in life and also expressed distress over online trolling.
On the professional front, Palash Muchhal has composed music for several popular songs, including Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui, Nachle Tu, Naach Basanti, Sasur Ke Kauri Lag Gaye, Teri Ek Hansi, Musafir, Kinara, and Khuda Ke Bande. He has also directed films such as Ardh and Kaam Chalu Hai.
As the investigation progresses, all eyes remain on how the case unfolds and whether formal charges will be filed against the musician-filmmaker.
