Mumbai, February 14, 2026:Shahid Kapoor’s latest film ‘O Romeo’, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, has made a promising start at the box office. Released in theatres on February 13, just a day ahead of Valentine’s Day, the film recorded an impressive opening-day collection, signalling strong weekend potential.
Despite receiving mixed reactions to its trailer, O Romeo managed to exceed early expectations and posted a solid first-day domestic earning of approximately Rs 8.25 crore, according to early trade estimates. The film had reportedly witnessed advance bookings worth over Rs 3 crore, and trade analysts were expecting the opening to fall between Rs 6 crore and Rs 8 crore—a target the film comfortably achieved.
Reports suggest that the film sold more than one lakh tickets in advance booking, with nearly the same number of tickets being sold through on-site bookings on release day. The overall occupancy for the film’s shows was recorded at around 14.86%, with collections rising steadily throughout the day.
On the global front, O Romeo earned a worldwide gross of approximately Rs 9.75 crore on its opening day.
The film has also successfully outperformed Shahid Kapoor’s previous release ‘Deva’, which opened at Rs 5.5 crore, and has even surpassed the 2024 Valentine’s week release ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’, which had earned Rs 6.70 crore on its first day.
However, despite its strong opening, O Romeo failed to enter Shahid Kapoor’s Top-5 highest opening-day films, as the fifth position continues to be held by ‘Udta Punjab’, which had collected Rs 10.05 crore on Day 1.
Shahid Kapoor’s Top-5 Opening Day Films remain:
- Kabir Singh (2019) – Rs 20.21 crore
- Padmaavat (2018) – Rs 19 crore
- Shaandaar (2015) – Rs 13.10 crore
- R… Rajkumar (2013) – Rs 10.10 crore
- Udta Punjab (2016) – Rs 10.05 crore
Meanwhile, trade experts believe the film could benefit significantly from the Valentine’s Day weekend, with young audiences and couples expected to boost collections on February 14 and Sunday.
O Romeo is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 60–65 crore and marks Shahid Kapoor’s fourth collaboration with Vishal Bhardwaj. The film is based on author Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. Shahid plays the role of gangster Hussain Ustra, while actress Triptii Dimri portrays Afshan, a character inspired by real-life figure Sapna Didi.
The film also features an ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, and Farida Jalal.
With a strong opening already in place, O Romeo is expected to witness growth over the weekend, and its box office performance will be closely watched in the coming days.
