Nick Jonas Shares Emotional Details About Daughter Malti’s Premature Birth

Singer Nick Jonas recently opened up about the birth of his daughter, Malti Marie Jonas, with actress Priyanka Chopra. Speaking on the Jay Shetty Podcast, Nick revealed that Malti was born prematurely, weighing just 1 pound 11 ounces (765 grams), and had a purplish skin tone at birth.

A Difficult Start
Nick described the experience as “extremely challenging,” saying that the couple had expected Malti in April, but she arrived earlier than anticipated. “When we reached the hospital, she came into the world weighing 765 grams and her color was almost purple,” Nick recalled, his voice filled with emotion. He praised the NICU nurses for their tireless efforts in stabilizing and caring for Malti during those critical early days.

12-Hour Hospital Shifts
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Priyanka and Nick spent 12-hour shifts at the hospital daily for three and a half months. “I still remember her scent. Some experiences are both heart-wrenching and comforting. Watching other families go through similar struggles while being there every day was both terrifying and healing,” he said. Over time, Malti gradually gained weight and improved after receiving six blood transfusions, eventually allowing the couple to bring her home after months of careful care.

Family Milestones
Nick Jonas married Priyanka Chopra in 2018 in Rajasthan, celebrating both traditional Christian and Hindu ceremonies. In January 2022, they welcomed their first child, daughter Malti.

Upcoming Projects
Nick Jonas will appear alongside Paul Rudd in the film Power Ballad, directed by John Carney, scheduled for release on 5 June 2026. Priyanka Chopra is set to star in S.S. Rajamouli’s highly anticipated film Varanasi with Mahesh Babu, one of the biggest projects in Hindi cinema this year.
