Actress Neha Dhupia has candidly spoken about the challenges she faces when work is scarce. In a recent interview, she revealed that periods without acting opportunities often make her anxious, and she sometimes ends up crying. Dhupia also mentioned taking inspiration from actor Akshay Khanna, saying that occasionally sitting out of the industry for years can be a lesson in patience.
Neha Dhupia, praised for her performances in shows like Single Papa and Perfect Family, shared with Bollywood Hungama that success in the industry doesn’t always guarantee continuous work. “Even after 20 years in the industry, when there’s no work, I lie down on my pillow and cry. This even happened three days ago,” she admitted. She clarified, however, that she does not want to frame this as a tragic story because she loves her craft and believes it will never disappoint her.
Talking about her struggles, Neha said, “When I’m not working, I feel restless. In the industry, actors are often advised to develop a thick skin, but losing projects and facing criticism constantly can be really hard. The difference between me and a newcomer is that I’ve learned to navigate through these challenges.”
Despite facing gaps of three to four years without acting opportunities, Neha emphasized that she has never been entirely unemployed. “There were times I felt tired, but thanks to God, I’ve always had something to do. Even if it exhausts me, there’s a satisfaction in knowing I’ve accomplished something,” she said.
Neha also spoke about drawing motivation from Akshay Khanna’s career. “Sometimes it’s hard to see the benefit of one project over another. Then I look at Akshay Khanna’s career and think, perhaps it’s okay to sit at home for six years. Work brings more work, and I hope the same continues for me,” she added.
