Neena Gupta Opens Up About Broken Engagement: “He Came Back After 6 Months, I Told Him to Leave”

Veteran actress Neena Gupta, known for her roles in Panchayat, Badhaai Ho, Vadh, and Metro, recently spoke about her personal life in an interview, revealing details about her past engagement that ended abruptly.

Neena revealed that before becoming a mother, she was engaged to a man who canceled their wedding just days before the ceremony. The reason for the breakup was never fully explained. According to the actress, he used a sinus surgery as an excuse to call off the wedding.

Speaking to Humans of Bombay, Neena said, “I was already thinking about starting a family. Our engagement was done, and I had even gone shopping in Delhi for clothes and jewelry. Then suddenly, I received a call from him saying the wedding couldn’t happen yet. When I asked why, he said he needed a sinus operation.”

Despite initially agreeing that the wedding could take place after his surgery, Neena never got a clear answer about why the engagement was called off. She even approached his parents, but they too had no explanation.

Six months later, the man returned, expressing his wish to marry her. Neena, however, firmly told him, “Leave now. I don’t want to marry you.” She added, “Even when I asked him earlier why he canceled the wedding, he never gave me an answer. People go through difficult situations, and sometimes decisions are made out of necessity.”

Following this chapter, Neena Gupta developed a relationship with cricketer Vivian Richards, becoming pregnant before marriage and giving birth to her daughter Masaba, whom she raised single-handedly. She later married Vivek Mehra in 2008.

On the professional front, Neena Gupta is set to appear alongside Sanjay Mishra in the upcoming film Vadh 2, releasing on 6th February.
