Nandamuri Balakrishna’s ‘Akhanda 2’ to Stream on OTT; Superstar Returns as Protector of Sanatan Dharma

South cinema superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna and Harshali Malhotra’s action-drama, ‘Akhanda 2: Tandavam’, is set to release on OTT platforms shortly, following its theatrical run last month. Reports suggest that the film’s digital rights have been sold for a whopping ₹200 crore.

Touted as the ‘God of Masses,’ Nandamuri Balakrishna reprises his role as Akhanda, the guardian of Sanatan Dharma. Despite featuring a star-studded cast and high expectations, the film underperformed at the box office, grossing only ₹94 crore domestically. Audiences, however, appreciated the film’s dialogue and over-the-top action sequences, which became the talk of the town.

About the Film:
‘Akhanda 2’ is a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster ‘Akhanda’. The film’s story revolves around Akhanda’s vow to protect Sanatan Dharma whenever it faces peril. A notable dialogue from the film states: “If the nation faces adversity, you may punish; but if religion faces peril, we will administer death.” In this installment, foreign enemies threaten both the faith and lives of Indian citizens, setting the stage for Akhanda’s powerful return.

The narrative also follows Jannati (Harshali Malhotra), now 18 years old and a scientist, who develops a ‘bio-shield’ for the Indian Army. When a deadly virus threatens the Kumbh Mela, Akhanda intervenes with his spiritual prowess to assist Jannati and neutralize the threat.

OTT Release Details:
Netflix has acquired the digital streaming rights for ‘Akhanda 2’. The film is expected to premiere on the platform starting January 9, 2026, in the second week of the new year.

In Parallel OTT Buzz:
While ‘Akhanda 2’ prepares for its OTT debut, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s other film ‘Bhagwant Kesari’ is also trending online. The Telugu action-drama, directed by Anil Ravipudi, features Arjun Rampal, Kajal Aggarwal, and Sreelila. Its popularity has been further fueled by the upcoming release of Thalapathy Vijay’s Hindi remake, ‘Jan Nayak’, hitting theaters on January 9, 2026. ‘Bhagwant Kesari’ is currently streaming on JioCinema and Prime Video.
