Rani Mukerji’s ‘Mardaani 3’ showed a promising start at the box office, but collections have dipped since the fourth day. On the fifth day, the film struggled to attract audiences, earning only ₹2.50 crore, while Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’, released alongside it, continues to outperform.
Produced under the Yash Raj Films banner, ‘Mardaani 3’ was heavily promoted by Rani Mukerji. Despite the initial buzz, the returns have been underwhelming. The film had a ₹4 crore collection on opening day, followed by moderate growth over the weekend. However, collections fell sharply on Monday and Tuesday.
Box Office Performance:
- Day 1, Friday: ₹4 crore
- Day 2, Saturday: ₹6.25 crore
- Day 3, Sunday: ₹7.25 crore
- Day 4, Monday: ₹2.15 crore
- Day 5, Tuesday: ₹2.50 crore
- Total Net (India): ₹22.25 crore
- Gross (India): ₹26.25 crore
- Overseas Collection: ₹7 crore
- Worldwide Collection: ₹33.25 crore
Compared to its predecessors—Mardaani (2014) and Mardaani 2 (2019), which were hits—the third installment is underperforming. Made on a ₹60 crore budget, the film has yet to recover costs, with worldwide collections still below ₹50 crore.
Occupancy Rate:
The occupancy for 3 February saw an improvement over 2 February. While Monday had an 11.27% occupancy, Tuesday reached 20.72%, driven mainly by evening and night shows. Night shows had the highest occupancy at 33.62%, while morning shows saw the lowest at 9.03%. Afternoon and evening shows recorded 18.78% and 21.45%, respectively.
Challenges Ahead:
‘Mardaani 3’ faces further competition with the 6 February release of Neena Gupta and Sanjay Mishra’s ‘Vadh 2’ and Shubhangi Atre’s ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’. The former is a sequel with a well-received first part, while the latter is based on a popular comedy TV show. How these releases impact Rani Mukerji’s film will become clear in the coming days.
Despite a strong start and a familiar franchise, Mardaani 3 is struggling to match the performance of its predecessors, as well as contend with other box office contenders like Border 2.
