Mardaani 3 Box Office: Rani Mukerji Struggles as ‘Border 2’ Dominates Sunday Collections

Rani Mukerji’s crime-thriller ‘Mardaani 3’ failed to make a strong impression at the box office on its third day, continuing to struggle against the blockbuster success of Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’. Despite being released during the weekend, the film managed a modest collection of ₹7.25 crore on Sunday.

Box Office Performance

According to industry tracker Sacnik, ‘Mardaani 3’ has shown only incremental growth since its release:

  • Day 1 (Friday, 30 January): ₹4 crore
  • Day 2 (Saturday, 31 January): ₹6.25 crore
  • Day 3 (Sunday, 1 February): ₹7.25 crore

This brings the total domestic collection to ₹17.50 crore. While Sunday’s earnings were 16% higher than Saturday, the film has not benefitted significantly from the weekend rush, partly due to stiff competition from ‘Border 2’.

Occupancy Trends

The film’s occupancy rate on Sunday was 33.29%, with the following breakdown:

  • Morning shows: 13.23%
  • Afternoon shows: 37.04%
  • Evening shows: 49.80%
  • Night shows: 33.10%

Like ‘Border 2’, the film drew the highest audience during evening shows. However, without a public holiday or extended weekend, its revenue growth may slow further in the coming week.

Worldwide Collections

‘Mardaani 3’ has earned ₹25.1 crore globally, including ₹20.7 crore in India and ₹4.4 crore from overseas markets. These numbers fall short of expectations for a film in this popular franchise.

Franchise Comparison

For context, the earlier installments performed as follows:

  • Mardaani (2014): ₹35.65 crore net in India, ₹59.30 crore worldwide
  • Mardaani 2 (2019): ₹57 crore net in India, ₹67 crore worldwide

Compared to its predecessors, ‘Mardaani 3’ is struggling to replicate past box office successes, highlighting the challenge of competing against high-profile releases like ‘Border 2’.
