Malini Awasthi Slams Rasika Dugal Over ‘Animal’ Comments; Social Media Reminds Fans of ‘Mirzapur’

Actress Rasika Dugal recently found herself at the center of controversy after criticizing the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Animal’ for being misogynistic. Speaking at an event hosted by senior journalist Barkha Dutt, Dugal stated that she refuses to participate in films that glorify misogyny or propaganda, emphasizing that her choices are guided by her personal and political beliefs.

“I won’t celebrate misogyny or become a part of propaganda-driven films. I cannot tolerate these things,” Dugal said. When asked if she would accept a role in ‘Animal’, she replied, “No. I would rather play characters whose politics align with mine. I am not Beena Tripathi in real life—I do not condone killing or mistreating men.”

Following her statement, folk singer Malini Awasthi and several social media users criticized Dugal. Awasthi wrote, “From the woman who played Mrs. Tripathi in Mirzapur—this is hypocrisy at its peak.”

Social media users also drew parallels with Dugal’s role in Mirzapur, pointing out perceived contradictions. One user commented, “After working in Mirzapur, criticizing Animal seems ironic. In one show, a woman killing a man who wronged her is acceptable, but asking a man to grovel before the same woman is misogyny. The double standards are obvious.” Another noted, “Mirzapur itself is filled with misogyny. Actors sometimes feel pressured to make such statements during interviews or public interactions.”

This incident has sparked a debate online about artistic choices, social responsibility, and double standards in film criticism, with Rasika Dugal at the center of the discussion.
