Veteran actor Gajendra Chauhan, best known for portraying Yudhishthira in the iconic television epic Mahabharat, recently visited spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan and sought his blessings. During the meeting, Chauhan recited a famous dialogue that was reportedly a favorite of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, drawing smiles and appreciation from the saint.
Upon arriving at the ashram, Chauhan introduced himself by recalling his portrayal of Dharmaraj Yudhishthira. Premanand Maharaj responded warmly, saying that Yudhishthira remains an enduring inspiration and a symbol of righteousness for the nation. He remarked that playing such a character carried immense responsibility, given its deep cultural and spiritual significance.
Chauhan then recited the dialogue admired by Vajpayee:
“No son, no father, no vow, and no tradition can stand above the nation. When it comes to the nation, even a vow must be broken.”
Premanand Maharaj repeatedly praised the sentiment, calling it a beautiful expression of devotion to the country.
Earlier, Chauhan had made headlines after falling victim to an online fraud. Mumbai’s Oshiwara cyber police recovered ₹98,000 that had been fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account through a fake D-Mart advertisement circulating on Facebook. The actor had clicked on the link and entered an OTP sent to his phone, unknowingly authorizing the transaction. Prompt police action prevented further financial loss.
Gajendra Chauhan is a seasoned television actor whose portrayal of Yudhishthira in Mahabharat (1988–90) made him a household name. Beyond television, he has appeared in several films, including cameo roles. In 2015, he was appointed chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), though his tenure was marked by student protests, leading to his resignation in 2017. From 2021 to 2025, he served as Vice-Chancellor of the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts.
