A cultural program in Tiruppur turned chaotic when renowned Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu became the target of a shocking incident. A woman threw a slipper at him during the event, sparking panic and raising questions about security arrangements and crowd management.
The incident occurred during the inauguration of the Kongu Arts, Literature, and Cultural Federation at the District Collector’s office, where Vairamuthu was attending as a guest. While the slipper did not hit the lyricist and no one was injured, it fell among the audience, causing alarm and confusion.
Authorities acted swiftly to control the situation. On-site police identified the woman responsible and ensured the safety of Vairamuthu, other dignitaries, and attendees. The event was temporarily paused to manage the situation and prevent further escalation.
Why the Slipper Was Thrown
Further investigation revealed that the 45-year-old woman had been staging a protest at the Collectorate over an unresolved grievance. The incident occurred as Vairamuthu was passing by the area. Officials noted that the woman had a history of causing disturbances near the Collectorate and courts.
Police added that the woman was reportedly dealing with mental health issues. She was taken to Tiruppur South Police Station for questioning and further investigation. No harm was caused to anyone, and the incident appeared linked to her ongoing protest.
