A controversy has erupted around Amit Jani’s upcoming film Kalki Sambhal. The production company, Jani Firefox Media Private Limited, has issued a legal notice to senior religious leader Maulana Mamlukurrahman Bark, accusing him of making threatening statements during the film’s shoot.
Film on 1978 Sambhal Riots Sparks Dispute
Kalki Sambhal, based on the 1978 Sambhal riots, has become the center of debate just days after its poster release on February 2, featuring actors Vijay Raj and Mahesh Manjrekar. The production company stated that the film is being made in full compliance with legal permissions, government licenses, and statutory procedures.
The notice claims that Maulana Bark made public statements during the filming that created fear and intimidation among the crew. According to the production team, these actions constitute mental harassment and a threat to the safety of the film unit.
Production Team Asserts Freedom of Expression
Jani Firefox Media emphasized that the 1978 Sambhal riots are a historical and public event. Making a film on such events falls under the freedom of expression guaranteed to all citizens under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution. Attempts to obstruct the film, the notice states, violate constitutional rights and the crew’s safety.
15-Day Deadline for Apology
The notice demands that Maulana Bark publicly apologize within 15 days, withdraw all his statements, and provide an unconditional assurance not to obstruct the film’s production in the future. Failure to comply will result in legal, civil, and constitutional action, for which the notice recipient will be fully responsible.
Additionally, the production company has demanded a deposit of ₹50 lakh into the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund as part of the resolution.
