Television actress Kishwer Merchant, 44, has candidly shared that she does not wish to have a second child, citing her age and personal readiness. The actress, who is married to actor Suyyash Rai, discussed her marriage, motherhood, and the initial skepticism surrounding their relationship during a recent conversation on Rashami Desai’s podcast.
Kishwer and Suyyash, who tied the knot in 2016, have a son named Nirvair. Their interfaith marriage and eight-year age difference had sparked considerable debate at the time, both within their families and among friends.
From First Meeting to Long Conversations
Recalling how their love story began, Kishwer revealed that she first met Suyyash on the sets of the television show Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani. While Kishwer was working on the show, Suyyash would visit the set to meet fellow actors. Their initial interaction soon turned into long conversations, including a seven-hour nonstop phone call after their first meeting.
However, the age difference almost became a deal-breaker. Kishwer admitted that when she discovered Suyyash was eight years younger than her, she immediately backed out of the relationship. “I felt I was dating a child and didn’t think I could handle someone so much younger,” she said.
Suyyash added that even friends warned Kishwer against the relationship, telling her that he was a reality-show contestant who would “date and leave.” Despite these doubts, the couple stayed together.
Family Reactions and Social Pressure
The couple also spoke openly about family reactions. While Kishwer’s mother was reportedly supportive, Suyyash revealed that his mother initially questioned his choice, remarking on Kishwer being older than him. They also shared that people discouraged them from participating together in reality shows like Bigg Boss, predicting it would lead to a breakup — something that never happened.
No Plans for Another Baby
On the topic of expanding their family, Suyyash expressed his desire to have a daughter. Kishwer, however, was firm in her response. “I am 44 years old, and I cannot have another child now,” she said, adding that she does not feel physically or emotionally prepared for another pregnancy.
The actress also revealed that their first pregnancy was completely unplanned. Initially, she did not even want to become a mother and had told her own mother that she and Suyyash preferred being “pet parents.” It was only later that she realized she had conceived, calling it a shocking yet life-changing moment for both of them.
Choosing Clarity Over Pressure
Through their conversation, Kishwer and Suyyash highlighted the importance of honesty, mutual respect, and resisting societal pressure — whether about age, marriage norms, or parenthood. Kishwer’s clear stance on not having another child has resonated with many fans, especially women who relate to making personal choices beyond conventional expectations.
