Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has made a startling revelation on social media, claiming that she faced discrimination and hurt during a personal incident involving fashion designer Masaba Gupta, daughter of actress Neena Gupta.
Kangana Speaks Out
Kangana shared that while visiting Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, she had planned to wear a saree designed by Masaba Gupta. However, according to her, Masaba instructed her stylist not to let Kangana wear the saree and not to mention the designer’s brand name. By the time she reached Ayodhya from Lucknow, Kangana had already worn the saree and felt humiliated, so much so that she quietly cried in her car.
She wrote on social media, “An incident I will never forget: I wore a Masaba Gupta saree to Ram Janmabhoomi, but she told her stylist not to let me wear it. I had already left Lucknow and couldn’t change. I felt so humiliated and low that I cried silently in my car. Later, like other designers, she instructed the stylist not to mention her or her brand.”
On Discrimination and Bias
Kangana also highlighted that some designers initially present themselves as friends but later distance themselves and withdraw support. She described the incident as being filled with discrimination and hatred, saying it still affects her deeply.
Connection to AR Rahman’s Comments
This revelation came shortly after music composer AR Rahman spoke about discrimination in Bollywood. In an interview with BBC Hindi, Rahman mentioned that he has received fewer film opportunities over the past eight years, possibly due to communal biases. He also referred to films like Vicky Kaushal’s Chhawa.
Kangana on AR Rahman
Responding to Rahman’s comments, Kangana stated that she had hoped Rahman would compose music for her film Emergency, but he refused to meet her, calling it a “propaganda film.” She noted that while she has faced bias and discrimination in the industry due to her political identity, the discrimination she experienced from AR Rahman was unlike anything she has faced elsewhere.
