Filmmaker Karan Johar is reportedly gearing up to make a comeback as a director with the much-anticipated sequel to his 2001 blockbuster, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The iconic family drama, produced by Yash Johar, ran for three hours and 30 minutes and remains a favorite among audiences, with its songs still popular today.

According to reports, the script for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 has been finalized, and shooting is expected to commence soon. A source cited by Pinkvilla mentioned that following the enormous success of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Karan Johar is planning to return with another romantic family drama. It is said to be the most expensive film of his career to date, and the early completion of the script has already generated excitement among fans.

Shooting Schedule
The film will be produced under the Dharma Productions banner and is expected to see a wide theatrical release. Pre-production work is likely to begin around mid-2026, with principal photography starting later in the year. The source described the project as a “high-octane family drama” with strong romantic and emotional elements.

Cast Details
While the official cast has not yet been confirmed, reports suggest that there will be two lead actors and two lead actresses. Casting is expected to begin soon. This will be one of Dharma Productions’ major releases for the year, and the film is expected to retain the title Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2.

Released on 14 December 2001, the film became a blockbuster, running for 10 weeks in theatres. Made on a budget of ₹40 crore, it grossed ₹77.29 crore in India and ₹119.29 crore worldwide.

Notable Changes Since the Original Film
Tragically, three actors from the original film—Shashikala, Achla Sachdev, and Vikas Sethi—have passed away. Meanwhile, Zibraan Khan, who played Kajol’s son Krish Raichand, has grown up, and Malavika Raj, who portrayed Pooja Sharma, is now married and a mother.

As anticipation builds, audiences are eager to see how Karan Johar reinvents this beloved family saga for a new generation.
