Chennai: Actor Jason Shah, known for his role in Hiramandi, has spoken out amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the release of Jana Nayakan, the final film of superstar Thalapathy Vijay. Scheduled to release on January 9, 2026, the film has been caught in a web of certification issues with the CBFC, prompting the matter to reach the Supreme Court.
In an exclusive interview, Jason Shah said, “Religion and politics have always had some connection with films. I was very excited about the release, but I never fully understood the certification process. It is not my department.”
The Central Board of Film Certification initially recommended a U/A (16+) certificate with some cuts. While the filmmakers made suggested edits, the board later withheld certification, citing complaints that certain scenes, including those depicting armed forces, could hurt religious sentiments. The Madras High Court issued an interim stay on the single bench order, and the next hearing is scheduled for January 21. Meanwhile, the makers have appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order.
Jason also addressed the growing trend of deliberate negative campaigns against films and actors. “With technology and freedom of speech, this combination is the most dangerous today. As an actor, you expose yourself to scrutiny and must accept that public perception will judge you,” he said. He added a political note, saying, “Once you vote for the ruling party, you entrust the country to their hands—they make such decisions, so sit back and accept it.”
Jana Nayakan, which marks Vijay’s last film before fully entering politics, has generated immense anticipation among fans, making the certification delay a hot topic in the industry.
