Jaideep Ahlawat Not Replacing Akshaye Khanna in Drishyam 3, Director Clarifies Role Is Different

Actor Akshaye Khanna continues to remain in the spotlight following his exit from the much-anticipated film Drishyam 3. While speculation has been rife about his replacement, director Abhishek Pathak has now clarified that Jaideep Ahlawat is not stepping into Akshaye Khanna’s role, but will instead play an entirely new character in the film.

Speaking to ETimes, Abhishek Pathak — who is also the son of producer Kumar Mangat Pathak of Panorama Studios — opened up about the circumstances surrounding Akshaye Khanna’s departure, revealing that it stemmed from creative differences. The producer had earlier sent a legal notice to Akshaye Khanna after the actor exited the project just days before the scheduled shoot.

Ajay Devgn Left the Decision to the Director

Abhishek Pathak also shared how lead actor Ajay Devgn reacted to the development. According to him, Devgn chose not to interfere and left the final decision entirely to the director, showing complete trust in the creative process.

Disagreement Over Look and Continuity

One of the key points of disagreement reportedly revolved around Akshaye Khanna’s request to wear a hair wig. Pathak explained that Drishyam 3 picks up exactly from where Drishyam 2 ended, in which Akshaye Khanna appeared in a bald look. Altering that appearance would have disrupted the film’s narrative continuity and appeared visually inconsistent.

Fee Renegotiation Confirmed

Addressing rumours around remuneration, Abhishek Pathak confirmed that Akshaye Khanna’s fee was reconsidered at his request. However, he refrained from disclosing the exact amount involved. Despite discussions, the differences could not be resolved, ultimately leading to the actor’s exit.

Jaideep Ahlawat Joins in a New Role

Putting an end to replacement rumours, Pathak categorically stated that Jaideep Ahlawat is not replacing Akshaye Khanna, but has been roped in for a fresh and distinct role, adding a new dimension to the Drishyam franchise.

Drishyam 3, led by Ajay Devgn, remains one of the most awaited sequels in Hindi cinema, and the latest developments have only intensified public interest around the film.
